These two blogs will keep you up-to-date on what's happening!
Greetings , Everyone!  I am so excited to share with you my Pecha Kucha presentation leader of choice for week three of the Executive Leadership course.  I did my presentation on Kirk Franklin, the Grammy winning Gospel Superstar!   While researching him, I found out a lot about the skills it takes to be a leader and stay on top. In my presentation, I lay out for you how Kirk stayed true to his calling, despite the trials and tribulations he had to endure.  Kirk kept it real throughout his journey to the top by communicating with his father.  He is truly an example to be followed by all those who aspire to greatness for God.

My current event article will be based on the Gospel Today magazine.  The title of the article was “Nashville’s 760 AM The Gospel to host Welcome Celebration for Stellar Gospel Music Awards”.

760 AM The Gospel(WENO-AM) in partnership with Yes Lord Radio and Cathedral of Praise hosted the welcome celebration on Wednesday, January 11th, 2012.  The 27th Annual Stellar Awards returned to Nashville, TN on Saturday January 14th, 2012 at the Grand Ole Opry House.  The Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center was the scene of this miraculous gospel event.  Gathered there were some of the greatest gospel artists on this planet!  This is an annual awards show founded by CEO and Founder of The Stellar Gospel Music Awards, Don Jackson.

These artists have their hearts on the pulse of the people.  Those in particular that I would like to mention include Kirk Franklin, who won Song of the Year with “I Smile” of the album, “Hello Fear”, and Vashawn Mitchell, who won Artist of the Year with his album “Triumphant”.  If you haven’t heard these cd’s, you don’t know what you are missing!  Run, I said, don’t walk to the nearest Walmart, Best Buy or Target and get you a copy!!  Your soul will be truly blessed!

These two artists exemplify exactly what I was talking about last week, the ability to reach people right where they are.  Vashawn Mitchell’s song “Nobody better than You”, just hits you right in your heart.  Ohh! He is so blessed!! To be able to articulate exactly what we are feeling, that which I thought before now, no words could  express.  He speaks about how we search high and low for that someone that can heal, that awesome one who you can put all your trust in.  He then says it!  He couldn’t find nobody greater than Jesus!  He stated he searched high and low, searched all over.  Now, haven’t we all done this?  Searched for that person who we could trust with our life’s secrets, one who could heal all are hurt and pain, only to be disappointed over and over again!  Then he gives us the answer to our prayers!  Jesus!!!!

Kirk Franklin’s song, “I smile”, lets you know that even though you may be going through a rough time, just smile.  Look forward to God’s deliverance.  It is so smooth.  It perfectly combines R&B with contemporary Christian music that will make anyone want to smile when they think about life’s problems.  This was what I meant by meeting people where they are.  This is helping people.  This is what music ministry is all about!  It reaches out into the highways and byways with a message that we all can relate to( saved or not)!!

There were many more winners at the Stellar Awards .  Check out the slideshow of the entertainers on stage performing and picking up their awards.  The show has been scheduled to be aired on national syndicated TV from January21 to February 21. Call your local cable station and request an airing of the program!  No date or time has been scheduled in Buffalo, as of yet.

While traveling back from Miami, I was setting back listening to satellite radio's gospel station"Praise".  I couldn't help but reflect upon my business agenda.  I wondered, "How can we make Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music appeal to the masses?"  What do the R/B singers and Hip Hop have that we don't?  As I kept flipping back from Gospel/CCM and Hip Hop, R/B stations, I realized that its' the message.  Most of the R/B and Hip/Hop singers were meeting people where they were.  Eight out of ten Gospel/CCM singers were praising God.  I am not saying that gospel shouldn't praise God, but what I am saying is that we in the the faith based music genre need to focus our message on the people and their present position/situations and sing and be transparent on how God can be a change agent in their lives.A new visionary
